Recently, Adrielle my daughter has been asking to come along with me to drop Jeremiah off to school. She is such a lady at only two years old, as she takes her time to pick her clothes and gradually walks alongside me, holding my hand to his school. As soon as Jeremiah enters his class, I know I have three to five minutes of explaining to do, as to why she can’t stay in Jeremiah’s class or school!
The other day, as we walked to the school, I was holding Adrielle’s hand when she stumbled and was about to fall. I felt her letting go of my hand, and as a reflex I quickly held onto her hand, and although she stumbled, she did not fall.
At that moment, I grasped something of what God does for us as a loving Father. In Psalm 37:23-24, the Psalmist says, “The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand”.
There are many things that are out of our control that affects our wellbeing. There are times we could be doing everything right, but something still manages to go wrong. There are times where our knowledge, ability and strength are just not enough to see us through. Like Adrielle, there are times we stumble and just wish we had someone to hold onto or help us up. In those times, just remember to trust in the saving and upholding hands of God because He is there beside you.
The passage teaches us that, God’s presence does not guarantee an escape from the fall. Our assurance is rather in His gracious character and love, that He will uphold us when we fall. One author said, “Our Faith is not meant to get us out of a hard place or change our painful condition. Rather, it is meant to reveal God’s faithfulness to us in the midst of our dire situation”.
Have you experienced being carried along by grace as the Father upheld you through a challenging season? If He did it then, He will do it again, because He is a faithful and a loving Father. Even if it seems like a dire situation, we are encouraged by scripture that, “…for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” Romans 8:28.
May you find comfort and peace as the Lord upholds you through whatever season you may find yourself in.
Be encouraged!
